Project - Sandy Platform Extensions
The platform extensions at Sandy were the key part of the Outer Thameslink Platform Lengthening Programme. Aaron Rail was commissioned by Spencer to construct additional platform length to accommodate the large number of commuters to London. This needed to be long enough for 12-car trains.
Project scope
The construction of the 2 platform extensions took place over a 12-month period around commissioning of the rail systems assets. Each platform was extended by 75m to allow the use of 12 car trains by the TOC’s and increase passenger capacity into London from the East Coast Main Line.
Aaron Rail Scope
Aaron Rail was procured to complete the following works:
- Platform Foundations
- Installation of PCC Beams and Planks
- Installation of platform copers
- Installation of platform fencing
In addition to the above Aaron Rail also assisted with the completion of the following works:
- Station lighting
- Track realignment
- General civils and rail labour, including safety critical
The improvements were a significant milestone in the delivery of the Thames Link Outer platform extension programme.
